What is a Doula?

The word "Doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves".
As a doula, it is my job to support you and your family before, during, and after birth by providing:
 emotional, physical & informational support.

Common Questions:

How I Will Help You:
I will provide support to you throughout your pregnancy, help you make a plan for your birth, and I will give continuous,  non-medical support to you and your partner throughout your labour. I will assist with breastfeeding if you wish and will help you get settled once your little one has arrived.
Do You Take Over My Partners Job?
No! I am there to support both of you! I will offer suggestions  and encourage your partner to touch, talk, and help in ways that feel comfortable to him and comforting to you. If he needs a break to eat or have a nap he can feel secure knowing that you will not be alone and will be getting support.
Do You Only Help With Natural Home Births?
No! I love all births! Whether you choose to deliver your baby at home or in the hospital, have a medicated or unmedicated birth, have an Obstetrician or a Midwife, I will respect and support you.
What Don't You Do?
*I do not do any medical procedures (ie. take blood pressure readings, vaginal exams, read fetal heart tones)
*I do not give medical advice.
*I do not take your partners place.
*I will not judge you, or the decisions you make.
